Forbidden Research
It is occasionally suggested that there exist areas of economic study and research which might be actively discouraged by coercion from outside the universities.

Why would universities allow this to arise?
The Sveriges Riksbank funds the 'Nobel Prize' in economics
The US Federal Reserve System funds the majority of research at the best US graduate schools of economics.
One can safely assume that research involving a concept not seen/acknowledged/recognized by these institutions will tend to stay in that category after the research they sponsor is completed.
