The US (a Coast Guard cutter), France, Italy, Britain, Australia, New Zealand (no ships) and Bahrain (a frigate) are participating in the nine-vessel two-day 'Exercise Leading Edge'.  The exercise in the Persian Gulf
will intercept a British vessel apparently-transporting dangerous weapons technology.  Russia, Japan, South Korea, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates will act as observers.  Saudi Arabia, the largest of the Gulf countries, has not joined them.

the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group steamed into the Persian Gulf to join the US naval, air and marine concentration piling up opposite Iran’s shores.
Now three US naval task forces will be in place opposite Iran in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea by October 21.
